Khmer Ceramics
Khmer Ceramics
Khmer Ceramics is a workshop that celebrates the preservation of Cambodian culture and ceramics. Taught by Vanndearlyn Vong, a Cambodian Chinese American artist whose practice is dedicated to revitalizing traditional Khmer ceramics.
For Vanny, preserving Khmer ceramics is vital to the continuation of her culture and a form of resistance to the 1975 Cambodian genocide. Vanny studied under 1 of 3 Cambodian ceramic masters who survived the genocide, and now she will be passing this knowledge on.
Students will learn how to draw, transfer, carve, and relief traditional Khmer designs on clay. You’ll craft up to 3 ornaments using traditional techniques.
