Krobo Beads
Krobo Beads
Celebrate Juneteenth with this unique cultural crafting workshop with Moreau Hallburton! Learn about ancient Ghanaian Krobo bead making while creating your own necklace. Krobo beads are wearable pieces of art, made entirely out of recycled glass and handpainted, they hold deep history and tradition in Odumase Krobo, Ghana.
During this beginner-friendly workshop, students will have a private screening of Moreau's unreleased short film, Beads Build Bridges: The People Behind the Craft. This film highlights the Ghanaian bead master Mr. Cedi as he takes you through the Krobo bead making process at his family-run bead factory.
Moreau Halliburton (she/her) was born and raised in South Los Angeles, California. Moreau's creativity takes many forms: beading, drawing, drumming, singing, crafting, and filmmaking. Moreau is dedicated to collaboration and bridge-building with the goals to uplift youth, create with diverse communities, and remain a life-long learner.
All materials included. This is not a pottery workshop, you'll take your necklaces home the same day.
